Hollywood English is a webinar (and upcoming course) that takes a new approach to helping students understand and master English speech and conversation.
Most other approaches, usually based on textbooks or conventional web resources, contain sample language that doesn’t accurately represent the way native speakers speak. What’s more, most examples present us with mundane situations (dentist, office, school) without any real point of interest. Everything is perfect. No conflict. No story. And as a result, no meaningful engagement beyond understanding the mechanics.
As an alternative, Hollywood English exploits a far more authentic source of language in context: The movie scene.
Movie scenes last anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes, contain realistic language and speaking patterns and-most importantly-tell meaningful and engaging stories that resonate long after the lesson is over. And great news: YouTube has tons of them.
Furthermore, scripts or transcripts of movies are also available as is extensive information on the subject of the movie. These serve as excellent sources for follow-up language activities.
In Hollywood English, each hour-long lesson focuses on a specific movie scene. You will learn vocabulary and idioms in addition to the authentic speaking patterns of the characters. And there’s more: In class, we will also debate issues and themes of the story, acquiring the ability to discuss them beyond the lesson.
